How to Extend the Life of Your Vehicle

How to Extend the Life of Your Vehicle

Sooner or later your vehicle will need to be replaced, but there are things you can do to make it “later” rather than “sooner”.

At Alvin’s Auto Center in Willow Glen, San Jose, we recommend auto maintenance practices that will go a long way towards extending the life of your vehicle:

  • Follow manufacturer recommended maintenance schedule – the Owner’s Manual for your vehicle specifies when to bring your car for various maintenance tasks – manufacturer has done extensive testing, and based on these tests, created the maintenance schedule that’s tailored to your vehicle.

  • Regular oil change (and oil filter change): if your vehicle uses conventional engine oil, the recommended interval is 3,000 miles. If your vehicle uses synthetic oil or synthetic blend, we recommend oil change every 5,000 miles. Oil change removes grime and debris that naturally occur as the engine performs its function. Fresh oil filter, and fresh engine oil serve to prolong engine life.

  • Follow up on strange sounds or unusual behaviors – you know your car better than anybody else on the planet – if your car starts to behave differently, or you hear unusual noises, you should have it inspected by a professional mechanic. Often we can catch and repair problems before they fully develop, thus  avoid outright breakdowns or expensive repairs.

If you suspect that something may be wrong with your vehicle, do not wait until it has to be towed in. Above tips can significantly increase vehicle life, and decrease probability of breakdowns and major repairs. You are always welcome at our San Jose auto repair shop – bring your vehicle for any upcoming maintenance or repairs.
