Don't take your vehicle to the dealer. Take it to Alvin's. I went to the dealer. A simple oil change? $500. Their shop rate? $360 per hour. My purge valve was on the Fritz. Vehicle intermittently had no power while driving and I thought it was a result of a warranty issue with the exhaust system. It was not. They quoted me 4 hours of labor @$360 per hour + a software update that was required to turn off the engine light in the dash. I declined the repairs and called Alvin's Auto Center. Now let me tell you what a good mechanic shop does. I brought my vehicle to Alvin's and told them what the dealer said was wrong. Instead of just taking that input, they wanted to run their own Diagnostics to understand the error codes first which I agreed to do. Then they called me to tell me what they thought was going on but that it was inconclusive that it was solely the purge valve. They suspected an aging battery was also a culprit which I thought made sense as the battery was likely the original and the car was 5yrs old. They test drove it, reset the codes, test drove it, reset the codes. In the end, I felt that they were being transparent with me and did a pretty deep analysis on the issues. They started with just recommending to replace the battery and see if that was the main issue that resolved the error codes. But, im not one to gamble and I told them to just replace the battery and the purge valve so we could definitively resolve everything. That was the right move and I felt really good about my choice in a repair shop. It's very important to have transparency in repairs. They made it easy to approve the quotes and I was on my way thanks to Alvin's.
